Wills, Trusts and Probate

Make a Will

Most of us take out a life insurance policy at some time in life, to pay off a mortgage or make provision for family after our death. Most of us however, do not make a Will because it brings to mind memories from the past or fears for the future.
Making a Will ensures that your wishes are carried out after your death, to make adequate provision for your family, appoint guardians for your children, minimise any tax bill.

Inheritance Tax

If your estate passes to your spouse or civil partner, there will generally be no Inheritance Tax payable. If your estate passes to your unmarried partner, children or others, only the first £312,000 is tax free. The value of any assets above that figure are taxed at 40%.

There are significant opportunities for husband and wife, civil partners or unmarried partners to plan their Wills to ensure that children or other beneficiaries receive the maximum benefit and so that the Tax Man gets as little as possible!
